Sobhita Dhulipala says no to PR, but Bollywood might say, who!?!
Actor Sobhita Dhulipala has sparked chatter after saying she does not want to be visible 24×7 and does not believe in excessive PR, a comment that would quickly travel across entertainment circles. Ironically, many in Bollywood could be still figuring out how to pronounce her name, let alone spot her in a crowded headline list.
In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, while promoting her return to Telugu cinema with ‘Cheekatilo’, Sobhita spoke about distancing herself from the publicity treadmill. She said she does not want constant amplification, does not find round-the-clock visibility useful, and prefers clarity about her own choices over industry trends.
That sounds refreshingly philosophical in an industry addicted to flashbulbs. But Bollywood has always been a business where perception often arrives before performance. Choosing not to be visible 24×7 in a fame economy that runs 24×7 is a bit like opening a shop and hoping customers will guess the address.
Sobhita also mentioned that she has only worked with PR in brief pockets and does not actively work with PR now. Fair enough. Personal choice is personal choice. Still, in a star system where even pets of celebrities have fan pages, rejecting visibility can look less like minimalism and more like invisibility.
Perhaps before writing off publicity altogether, a quick reality check might help. There is even a free PR Visibility Score tool that measures how visible a personality is across digital media. It is available on our site here:
A scorecard might reveal whether one is escaping noise or simply missing from the conversation.
To be clear, PR is not magic and silence is not a crime. But in Bollywood, absence rarely makes the heart grow fonder. It usually makes the audience scroll past.
In the end, stars can love PR, hate PR, or ignore PR. The audience, however, can only engage with what they see and hear.
